Let's get some interaction. I want to know who is reading this blog! GUESS WHAT THIS IS? AND IT'S IMPORTANCE TO ME? Sorry, you may have to stand on your head to see it - I can't make it any different....humm, must be the computer, not the operator!
Writings of Saint Lucia, Ghana and life in general. A Peace Corps Volunteer in St. Lucia, visiting faculty in Ghana and grandma for life. This is a look back at the details of my travels and a document for my grandchildren. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. This blog does not express views of U.S. Peace Corps, Webster University, my family, dog or any institutions named or linked to these pages. It's life observation as I interpret it.

hrmm, the stairway up to your room, and the roof leaking above it, into the buckets? Importance because you have to dodge the leaks, and are stuck in a downpour to get about? Those are my guesses!!!!! :-D Glad you are enjoying the Caribbean!
I would say that the buckets are for catching the rain from a leaky roof. The good news is that it is a great hair rinse.

Answer: Buckets on the stairs catching dripping water from a leaky roof during a tropical rainfall in Saint Lucia. The home itself? Karen's temporary host home.
Now, without looking Karen, how many steps and railing spindles appear in this photo? Just checking to see if you're reading your comments sections!

My guess is that it's a stairwell you use often. The bucket and bowl are catching dripping water/rain?
The buckets are used for catching water, when the pipes run dry this is your only supply of water for washing, brushing, etc... Hopefully the water will last until water returns to the pipes, otherwise you will be a dirty girl.

Kevin
It's left over rain water that gets used when you pipes run dry. The water is not used for drinking, but for bathing, brusing, etc... The pipes can be off for hours or days so there is much importance placed on the collected water.

Kevin
I've heard of bird bath never bucket bath.
I am guessing it's a leaky ceiling above the stairway that you use often...
